The Need
All too often, great business ideas with the potential to benefit the ultra poor "die on the vine" when community entrepreneurs lack access to the type of support that would allow them to launch their businesses. They need patient capital that can absorb longer time horizons, higher risk, and lower financial returns in exchange for desired social returns - attributes that make it impossible for traditional investors to structure the necessary financing.
For a new generation of entrepreneurs, Upaya is creating an ecosystem that supports smaller, more patient investments, and pairs those resources with support from experienced advisors will allow them to build businesses that can reach and engage the ultra poor.
